Dedicated with love, to the memory of Victoria Kate Lynn

Sweet Like Chocolate Review

April 24th, 2008 by admin

When Rebecca and I first talked about doing an event in memory of Victoria, and to help raise funds for the newly established Victoria Lynn Charitable Trust, neither of us anticipated just how successful the evening would turn out to be. We were both eager to arrange the event before the end of the university term so that as many people as possible would be able to make it. As soon as we had picked a date, the two of us set to work, organising, booking venues, getting flyers made, and generally making as much noise as possible about the event we had named ‘Sweet Like Chocolate’. For those of you who didn’t realise, we named the event so, as we both thought it the most fitting name in memory of one of the biggest chocoholics there ever was… Victoria!

The couple of weeks leading up to Sweet Like was totally hectic for both myself and Rebecca, but we also had a lot of fun… well who wouldn’t have fun stocking up on enough chocolate to feed over 400 people?! By the time the 4th of May came, we had managed to generate so much publicity for the night, we were virtually sold out! We had organised all of the slaves for the auction, we had a brilliant choice of donated raffle prizes, and we had enough confectionary to feed a small army, all that was left was to cross our fingers and hope for the best.

Looking back on the night, we couldn’t have wished for a more successful event. Bar Oslo was completely packed out, and everyone was getting merry on a mixture of chocolate, cakes and alcohol! Even the slave auction went according to plan with our highest bid coming in at a whopping £250. The raffle was also a fantastic success and over all we managed to raise approximately £2,800.

We hope that Sweet Like Chocolate is just the first in a long line of exciting charity events to come, which will perpetuate Victoria’s memory, whilst at the same time raise funds to help those who also suffer from Primary Pulmonary Hypertension. Finally, Rebecca and myself would like to mention a few special people who particularly helped us to make the night such a big hit. Thank you to Jamie Milestone who, despite looming coursework deadlines, took time out to be our fab DJ for the night! Also thank you to Karen Graham who designed all of our flyers, posters and tickets. We loved the giant chocolate bars on our wall! We also wanted to say thank you again to JS Restaurant, Brackmans’ Bakery, and all those individuals who so kindly donated raffle prizes to us. Finally thank you to everyone else who was behind the scenes helping to sell raffle tickets, shake yellow boxes, hand out food, and generally make sure the night ran smoothly. You know who you are and we couldn’t have done it without your support!
